Manx Gas want to increase my Direct Debit drastically. What should I do?

Cancel it immediately.
You are under no obligation to have your gas supply on a Direct Debit and cannot be forced to make payment for services you have yet to be (accurately) billed for.

Do not give Manx Gas more money than you can afford or commit to by paying for your service after they have invoiced for it.

Is this legal for Manx Gas want to increase my Direct Debit without my permission?

Technically yes, but you should cancel it immediately if they suggest they are planning to do this.
You are under no obligation to have your gas supply on a Direct Debit and cannot be forced to make payment for services you have yet to be (accurately) billed for.

By cancelling your Direct Debit, Manx Gas are forced to accurately invoice your service and given the hundreds of complaints about inaccurate billing, you should also check every single invoice to date for discrepancies.

How do I cancel my Direct Debit with Manx Gas?

Simply log into your online banking if you have it where you should be able to cancel it immediately.

If you do not have internet banking, or are unable to do this yourself, you should visit your branch in person or call your banks Customer Services who will be able to action this with immediate effect.

Why are Manx Gas increasing Direct Debits so significantly?

Manx Gas will suggest this is to 'allow customers to better manage fluctuations in gas supply prices and usage' but we believe there are two potential reasons they are trying to do this.
